Our Story
The most powerful thing you can do for someone is make them feel genuinely seen and valued. That’s what we do.
Will Guidara’s Unreasonable Hospitality tells the story of a restaurant that became the best in the world — not through better food, but through an obsession with making people feel genuinely, unexpectedly seen. One story stood out: a guest mentioned offhand that they’d never had a New York hot dog. The team ran out and bought one, presented it between courses. The guest wept.
That story stayed with us. Not because of the hot dog — but because of what it represented. Someone who had given so much, traveled so far, and in one small, unreasonable moment, finally felt completely seen.
The teacher who spends her own money on classroom supplies and hasn’t taken a real vacation in years. The caregiver who keeps postponing his own joy because someone else always comes first. The neighbor who organizes everything for everyone and never asks for anything in return. These people are everywhere. And they share one thing: they’ve gotten so good at giving that they’ve stopped believing receiving is for them.
Treat People Special is a nonprofit built around one belief: that everyone deserves a moment designed entirely for them. Not a birthday card. Not a thank-you note. A real, thoughtful, unreasonable act of care. A weekend at the beach. A family dinner at a restaurant they’d never choose for themselves. Whatever removes the one small barrier standing between them and a memory they’ll never forget.
For about $500, we can fund one complete experience. That’s it. We operate lean, we keep overhead low, and we put as much of every donation as possible directly into the hands — and hearts — of the people who deserve it most. We started in the Pacific Northwest, and every experience we’ve funded has confirmed what we believed from the beginning: these moments matter far more than recipients expect.
We’re early. We’re building. And we’re just getting started. But the idea is simple, the need is real, and the impact is immediate. One person. One experience. One moment of feeling genuinely special.
Our Mission
“To fund small, meaningful experiences for people who always put others first — and would never do it for themselves.”
